Yukon Territory

Yukon Territory Map
Map of Yukon territory
Firstly, the Yukon is a river going from rocky mountains in British Columbia up to the Bering sea. A 3100km length travel.
The river gave its name to a Canadian territory nearly as large as France (480 000 km² vs 550 000 km²).
The Yukon territory is bigger than California state and bigger than Belgium, Danemark, Germany and Holland all together.

Compared to the size of the territory, very few people live there: Roughly 30 000 people, half of them leaving in Whitehorse, the capital.
During the gold rush, a lot more people were living there. In 1898, 30 000 people were living in Dawson city (vs 2000 nowadays).
Even if the population is not numerous, the diversity is very high. You will find first the first nations (roughly 20% of the Yukon people) but also a very active francophone community, europeans, asian people, etc...
The Crow and the Fireweed are the symbols of the Yukon. Certainly because this bird and this plant can be found nearly everywhere in the territory.
