Painting contest : Art classes description

Inspired Minds ("Esprits plein d'inspiration" ) , Lincroft, New-jersey (Etats-Unis)

In this course, which began in 2006, students come to learn the techniques to paint realistically. Each artist works at their own pace and level, and can focus on their own interests, be it landscape, portrait, animal portrait, etc. We primarily work with oil paint and all students are introduced to this medium an dits process through still life, then photo-reference. The emphasis is on composition, color, and value (light and shadow). As an instructor I explain color theory and the fundamentals of design as well as showing technique through demonstrations, but the growth happens mostly through repetition, trial and error, and group critique/ feedback.

It is so fulfilling to see each student artist grow and evolve with each new painting, and to see how they learn from each other as well. This theme allowed each artist to utilize « water » and create their own interpretation. We all enjoyed the process, and are excited to participate in this contest as a group.
Also, in June 2009, we will be exhibiting this class’s work as a group for the first time at Starbucks in Red Bank, NJ USA.
